New Brunswick, like several areas of Canada, is witnessing a rise in housing insecurity, particularly among immigrants and racialized populations. The province’s Poverty Reduction Strategy and Canada’s National Housing Strategy both underscore the need for safe, culturally sensitive housing. Saferoots Family Home is a non-profit organization committed to offering safe, compassionate, and culturally grounded transitional housing and support services to vulnerable families in New Brunswick.
We specialize in aiding abandoned and homeless women and children, as well as providing dignified older adults and seniors care. Our programs combine secure shelter with comprehensive wrap-around supports—including trauma-informed counseling, life skills development, health services, and community integration—to help individuals rebuild their lives with stability and hope.
Evidence of Need
New Brunswick faces long waitlists for affordable and transitional housing in both urban and rural areas, making it extremely difficult for vulnerable families to find safe shelter.
There are also rising rates of homelessness and housing instability among immigrants, Blacks and other racialized populations, with women and children being particularly affected.
Additionally, significant gaps remain in culturally appropriate and language-accessible services, leaving many racialized and newcomer families without the supportive care they need.

Our Unique Approach
While many existing shelters and transitional housing programs in New Brunswick serve a broad population, Saferoots Family Home will provide specialized, culturally responsive, anti-oppressive care that affirms identity, promotes equity, and supports the holistic well-being of women and children.
Rather than competing with other providers, we will collaborate with them to fill critical service gaps.
Our approach emphasizes cultural identity, trauma-informed supports, and family stabilization, all rooted in principles of equity and decolonial care.
