Who is eligible to stay at Saferoots Family Home?

Saferoots Family Home primarily supports racialized and newcomer women, children, and elders in New Brunswick who are experiencing homelessness, housing insecurity, abandonment, or family crisis. This includes single mothers with children, pregnant women, and seniors needing compassionate transitional or elderly home care. Priority is given to those who would benefit most from our culturally grounded, trauma-informed environment.

How do I apply for support at Saferoots?

You can reach out to us by phone or email. Our team will conduct a compassionate intake assessment to understand your situation and determine how we can best support you. Referrals from shelters, hospitals, social workers, and community organizations are also welcome. All inquiries are handled with confidentiality and respect.

How does Saferoots ensure cultural sensitivity and safety?

Our programs are rooted in anti-racism, equity, and decolonial care. We offer culturally affirming programming, language support, traditional food options, prayer and reflection spaces, and trauma-informed practices. Every staff member is trained to provide respectful, person-centered care that honors the diverse identities and experiences of racialized and newcomer families.

Do you support elderly women and seniors?

Yes. We provide dignified elderly home care within our facility, including accessible suites, mobility support, gentle daily assistance, medication management, and opportunities for intergenerational connection with younger residents and children. Seniors receive specialized case management focused on health, safety, and long-term well-being.

What types of housing and support does Saferoots offer?

We provide safe, private, and family-friendly transitional housing units along with comprehensive wrap-around supports. This includes case management, legal aid navigation, income assistance, life-skills workshops, culturally affirming community programs, youth tutoring and recreation, and specialized elderly care services — all designed to promote healing, stability, and long-term independence.

Is Saferoots free or how is it funded?

As a non-profit organization, we do not charge residents for housing or core support services. Saferoots is funded through grants, donations, and community partnerships. Residents are encouraged to contribute to income assistance programs where applicable, but no one is turned away due to inability to pay.

How long can someone stay at Saferoots?

We offer transitional housing with flexible stay lengths based on individual needs. Most residents stay between 3 to 18 months while they work on stability goals. Our case managers collaborate with each person to create a personalized plan for safe, sustainable move-outs when they are ready.

Does Saferoots accept families with children?

Absolutely. We warmly welcome mothers with children of all ages. Our facility offers family-sized suites, child-friendly spaces, youth programs (tutoring, arts, mentorship), and parenting support workshops. We create a nurturing environment where mothers can focus on healing while their children feel safe, supported, and hopeful.
